Jason A. Tompkins, LCSW
A thoughtful,
collaborative practice.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine conversation with someone who is paying careful attention. My goal is to create a space where people feel comfortable being honest about what they are going through, sometimes for the first time. From there, we can begin to make sense of things together and explore new ways of moving forward.
Clinical experience
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in the Tampa Bay area with more than two decades of experience in private psychotherapy practice. I work with adults and teens who are navigating grief, relationship challenges, and difficult life transitions. I have particular experience supporting individuals and families affected by suicide loss.
Before entering private practice, I worked in programs serving young people involved in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. This challenging and valuable work gave me insight into the lives of some of Tampa Bay’s most vulnerable young people and a deep appreciation for their resilience.
Education & qualifications
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and my Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida. My approach to therapy is insight-oriented and grounded in curiosity about the self. I work collaboratively with clients to better understand the patterns that show up in their lives, process painful experiences, and develop greater emotional resilience.

A commitment to continued learning
For me, continuing education goes beyond meeting professional requirements. It is an ongoing commitment to improving the quality of care I offer. For 17 years, I have participated in ongoing training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, deepening my understanding of emotional life, relationships, and the therapeutic process. This continued study helps me listen more carefully, question my assumptions, and refine how I work with each person.
My ongoing study includes the Contemporary Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy & Psychoanalysis and the South Tampa Psychoanalytic Study Group.
Community involvement & clinician education
In addition to my clinical work, I am involved with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). I have trained clinicians in suicide bereavement, facilitate International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day (Survivor Day), and serve on AFSP’s National Loss and Healing Council.
In my practice, I aim to offer thoughtful, compassionate psychotherapy for adults and teens who want to understand themselves more deeply and make meaningful changes in their lives.
